- What are the ages of the donors?
All of our donors are between the ages of 21-32 years.
- What type of screening is done on the donor
before she is entered in the database?
All our donors complete an in depth application that
includes a medical, psychiatric, and social history
and reviews three generations of medical history to
look for possible heritable conditions. The application
also inquires about her interest, activities and reasons
for becoming a donor.
Once you have selected a donor, she will have a
psychiatric evaluation performed by Jennifer Rosenberg,
MD., and she will take a psychological test. If
she is married, her spouse will be present at the
evaluation and will also take the test.
After the donor successfully completes the psychiatric
evaluation, she will have an appointment with the
infertility specialists who will perform a physical
examination and obtain labs to assess ovarian functioning,
to check for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV,
drugs, and possibly other tests as well. They may
also obtain further genetic testing which will be
discussed with you.
- Where do the donors come from?
All our donors are recruited from the Cleveland/Akron
area, Youngstown, Columbus area, and Pennsylvania.
Our goal is to provide excellent donors who live approximately
two hours from Cleveland. We feel the close proximity
will help coordinate cycles and facilitate their travel
to the infertility clinic for appointments and egg
retrieval. Donors may have blood tests and monitoring
done at various sites closer to them, but the psychiatric
evaluation and retrieval will be done in Cleveland.
- Do I get to meet the egg donor?
No. Our donors are anonymous and we will provide you
with all the information you need to help you choose
the right donor for you. You do have access to photos
of donors, and the donors indicate if they are willing
to be contacted in the future.
- What criteria do people use to choose a
donor?
Choosing a donor is a very personal thing, however,
many people look for similar characteristics, ethnic
backgrounds, and similar interests.
